Karoo Restaurant
Taste of South Africa on Cape Cod
By: - Apr 01st, 2017The name Karoo derives from a semiarid region of South Africa. In local dialect the term translates as “land of thirst.” But you will find the cuisine of Chef Sanette Groenwald, of Afrikaner Dutch heritage, to be no mirage. This a great place for exotic cuisine on Lower Cape Cod.

By: - May 26th, 2016For the best chowder in New England head for Gloucester. But steer clear of the downtown and harbor tourist traps. Don't even bother with Rockport. Seek out the fringe lunch places like Charley's and Causeway where the locals belly up. It will take a bit of poking around to find them but it's worth the effort.

Dakoto Formerly Dakota in Pittsfield
From an A to O No
By: - Mar 18th, 2015The Dakota was a popular destination for Pittsfield diners. It closed last summer, underwent extensive renovation, and has reopened as Dakoto. As the Pit Bulls discovered during a recent lunch more has changed than the last vowel in the name of the now Asian themed steak house. The upgrade seems more like a setback. Most of all we missed that snarling, stuffed bear that amusingly greeted diners. The new decor is spotless but enervating.

Winter Comfort Sundays
By: - Feb 09th, 2015During the winter season Mezze in Williamstown offers Comfort Sunday weekly specials. A three course meal at the upscale restaurant costs $29. Or $22 if you skip desert. On a snowy winter night we joined friends to share a super spicy Moroccan menu. It was perhaps too authentic as the owner Nancy Thomas, who created this special dinner, is Moroccan American. It evoked a gastronomical heat wave on a cold gloomy night.
