Hyman Bloom and Jack Levine Fine Arts
Legacy of Boston Expressionism
By: - Oct 15th, 2010When the Boston Expressionist Hyman Bloom (March 29, 1913 to August 26, 2009) passed away none of his works were on view in the major New England museums. Bloom, his partner Jack Levine, and Karl Zerbe were the leaders of what is regarded as the most significant and influential movement of artists in Boston during the 20th century. Their neglect has been a scandal for Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. We are informed that a work by Bloom will be hung in the new wing of the MFA which opens in November. It remains to be seen how the museum will treat Levine and Zerbe. The MFA owns a minor work by the still living Levine which it acquired through the WPA.

B. Amore's Street Calligraphies Portfolio
Recelty Shown at Boston Sculptors
By: - Jun 29th, 2010The work I am doing now has everything to do with those early interactions between my hands, my being, and the exterior world. My hands and thoughts have been the bridge between the worlds, even the fact that I still prefer to write on this white page with a soft lead pencil is evidence of the same basic tendency. Whenever I was sick, lying in bed with the Book of Knowledge encyclopedia spread about me, cutting paper into smaller pieces and stapling them together to make small books into which I would transcribe drawings of monkeys, etc. Hours spent happily reading or making art are still primary pleasures for me.

Lester Johnson 1919 to 2010 Fine Arts
A Leading Figurative Expressionist
By: - Jun 17th, 2010Lester Johnson, who died recently at 91, was one of the leading artists of the Figurative Expressionist movement which developed in the 1950s and early 1960s. Much of this activity occurred at the Sun Gallery in Provincetown as well as in New York. The two other primary artists were Jan Muller who died in 1958 and Bob Thompson who was 29 when he died in 1966. Although there was no direct connection Figurative Expressionism saw related developments in San Francisco and Chicago. The movement was pushed aside with the emergence of Pop art then reformulated as Rhino Horn from 1967 to 1978.

Mahler’s musicâ€"parts of his 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th Symphonies, plus "Wenn dein Mütterlein" from the Kindertotenliederâ€"is a full partner in this production.
