Visiting Santa

No Snow in the Berkshires

Visiting Santa

North Pole
A few days before
Christmas
Knocked on the door
Ancient weathered wood
An elf answered
What do you want
Have to speak to Santa
How did you get here
Jet Blue to Alaska
Walked from there
Terrible flight
Lousy snacks
But our location is secret
A myth you know
How did you find us
Easy Googled then GPS
Kids in the Berkshires
Where I come from
Are worried
Not a flake of snow
Where will the sled go
The reindeer are old
Santa's getting up there too
Will he make it this year
Just need a few minutes
Then I'll be gone
Well if you insist
Come sit by the fire
We put in a gas log
A few years back
More efficient
Better than splitting wood
Too busy making toys
Much more complex
We sent an elf to MIT
Subcontracts and all that
I Phones and stuff
Not like it used to be
Santa will be with you
Yo Ho Ho
The jolly fellow entered
Full white beard
Long johns and slippers
Enormous belly
Sat beside me
Next to the ersatz hearth
People say we look alike
I stammered
Somewhat awed
In his presence
How are you holding up
You must be in the hundreds
Old and over weight
I sat on your knee
Years ago at Filene's
You brought me a sled
Flexible Flyer
Lots of snow back then
Great sigh
It gets tougher every year
Especially for  kids
Immigrants and refugees
Such turmoil and hate
Harder to spread my love
The elves have been great
We work with computers
Keep up with wish lists
By e mail starting
Back in July
After vacation
Viking River Cruise
With Mrs. Claus
We loved the buffets
Tell the kids back home
To put out the
Cookies and milk
Look up in the sky
You'll see us
Fly by
Thanks for coming
Merry Christmas
