Mayor Elect Candidate Dick Alcombright today released his Transition Plan and objectives as he prepares to take office on Monday, January 4, 2010

"As I have said throughout this year, I truly believe that our economic future is dependent on engaging all citizens in the process of growing our city and creating jobs.  No individual could accomplish this task alone, so we need a transparent team environment in North Adams to maximize our strengths and closely examine our challenges.  Our campaign was directed in an open and inclusive way, and the people of this community have inspired me to govern in the same fashion.  I want to ask everyone to continue to share your vision for our city.  To do this, we have designed a new website www.northadamsideas.com

I enthusiastically encourage all to visit this site and share your ideas.

"Over the next few months, I will discuss the status of all current and future city projects and contract issues, and begin to analyze the city's current fiscal condition.  I want to ensure all city employees that, short of any unforeseen budget issues or additional state cuts, all jobs will remain intact throughout this current fiscal year.  It is also time to take a hard look at the city's health insurance options in an effort to reduce costs to employees and the city while providing the best options possible.  Civic and business leaders will be hearing from me, as well, in order to assess the economic climate in North Adams and North Berkshire, and to discuss my Economic Development and Housing Commission plans.

"I will begin a formal transition on November 30th and at that time; I will begin to meet with all city department heads and tour city schools and facilities. Mayor John Barrett has been very cooperative in assisting me in this, and he has my sincere appreciation.  During the transition, I will be located within the offices of Freedman, DeRosa & Rondeau on the MASS MoCA campus.  As there may be a variety of un-appointed positions to city boards and committees, as well as unfilled jobs, I have respectfully asked the Mayor not to fill these vacancies, but rather allow our new administration the privilege of making necessary appointments after January 4th."

"I have recently attended a mayor-elect workshop at the Governor's Office where I met with the Governor, Lt. Governor, and members of the cabiniet. I also attended the Massachusetts Mayors' Association's Seminar for Newly Elected Mayors and will be attending a Mayoral Leadership seminar at the University of Massachusetts Boston on December 5th.  I am certain that these programs as well as five weeks in formal transition will prepare me well for the challenges that are ahead."

 "Together We Will Succeed."
