From its inception in 1970 the sprawling Boston Center for the Arts a warren of buildings surrounding the historic Cyclorama in the South End has provided some forty studio spaces and six live/work spaces in its St. Cloud Building. The Center today is home to the Mills Gallery as well as a lively new theatre complex and the Cyclorama which is used for special events and exhibitions.

The independent curator, James Manning, was given the challenge of selecting and installing a range of work that reflected on the 35 year long history of artists who have created work in this environment. The eclectic result represents a cross cut of Boston art past and present. The show provides an overview rather than a fixed theme so it is rather diverse and it is best to approach each artist and work on individual merits rather than try to connect the dots of a broader theme. In than regard Manning has produced a sparse, well spaced, respectful selection of work in a range of media from painting and drawing to video, photography and sculpture assemblages.
