a swell rises
out of a flat sea

a dog meditates
on the sand
hind legs folded
front tall
eyes over ocean
alert and silent

rhythmic roaring
from the northeast
face of the wall
denotes the end
of a storm at sea

the dog meditates
on a granite block

a green tin skiff
broadside to the beach
rocks and bangs
beneath a waxing
half moon

autumn football
finds tennis balls
in flat yellow hosta
soon hurled away
by blustering boys
