Barrington Stage Company and Knesset Israel announce the launch of “Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y” at Barrington Stage. The popular satellite broadcast series brings lectures, interviews and readings from nationally and internationally recognized political figures, entertainers, newsmakers and authors to communities across the U.S. and Canada. As the exclusive host of “Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y” in Berkshire County, Barrington Stage Company will provide local audiences the opportunity to take part in discussions with some of the world’s most fascinating people. The “Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y” lectures will be broadcast to BSC’s Mainstage Theatre located at 30 Union Street in Downtown Pittsfield.
To kick off the “Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y” series, Barrington Stage Company is excited to host “Steve Martin with Deborah Solomon” on Monday, November 29 at 8pm. A celebrated writer, actor and performer, Steve Martin’s film credits include Father of the Bride, Parenthood and The Spanish Prisoner, as well as Roxanne, L.A. Story and Bowfinger, for which he also wrote the screenplays. He’s won Emmy Awards for his television writing and two Grammy Awards for comedy albums. In addition to a play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, he has written a best-selling collection of comic pieces, Pure Drivel and a best-selling novella, Shopgirl. His most recent novel is An Object of Beauty: A Novel.
The series will continue on Monday, December 6 at 8pm with “Elaine Stritch with Jordan Roth.” Elaine Stritch’s legendary career began as Ethel Merman’s standby in Call Me Madam. Her Broadway and West End credits include such shows as Bus Stop, Goldilocks, Sail Away, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Small Craft Warnings, Company, A Delicate Balance and Showboat. Ms. Stritch received a 2007 Emmy Award for her recurring guest role on NBC’s “30 Rock.” She won a Tony Award, two Drama Desk Awards as well as a 2004 Emmy Award for the Broadway production of Elaine Stritch At Liberty. In 2005, Elaine made her New York cabaret debut at The Café Carlyle where she performs regularly. This year, in celebration of Stephen Sondheim’s 80th birthday, she debuted Elaine Stritch: Singin’ Sondheim...One Song at a Time. Ms. Stritch will hit Broadway again in the revival of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.
The third event in BSC and KI’s fall 2010 “Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y” programming will be “Elie Wiesel and David Axelrod Discuss the Conference of Nobel Laureates” on Monday, December 13 at 8pm. 92nd Street Y, in partnership with the Elie Wiesel Foundation, hosted the Conference of Nobel Laureates, bringing together two unique groups: the world's greatest minds and the next generation of decision makers. This very special event with Elie Wiesel and David Axelrod will bring to the stage the key findings from the conference, focusing on how to manage the changing nature of leadership in the 21st Century. Wiesel and Axelrod will conclude the conference by presenting summaries of the discussions.
Both Steve Martin and Elaine Stritch will be broadcast live via satellite from the 92nd Street Y in New York and will be interactive experiences, as audience members will have the chance, during the live event, to submit questions to the speakers via email. Please note: the Elie Wiesel and David Axelrod lecture is pre-recorded and will not feature an interactive component.
