Jitters on Wall Street

Bulls on the Run

There were tons of tourists posing with the Bull. That symbol of a soaring market on Wall Street. Astrid wanted to know where they keep the Bear?

During these difficult times the New York financial district was dense with tourists as well as ubiquitous TV crews sending in timely reports. It was fun to listen in and catch the news as it was happening.

One reporter was filing in German for the folks back home. Astrid offered a running translation. Another reporter mopped his brow with a handkerchief. There were beads of sweat on a hot and humid late fall day. As well as an intense light. He reviewed notes and ran over his lines rehearsing several times.

Finally he went live. It was over in a matter of seconds. Looking at me he asked "How did I do?" My ironic response was "Try another take."

"Are you kidding," he responded. 'This was live. There is no second take."

In a sense that seems to sum up just what is going on. Indeed, there is no second take.  The entire nation sits and waits as in Congress, as the late great Johnny Most would say, "They fiddle and diddle."

What we really need is a pit bull soccer mom to jump in there and rassle that big bear. Yeah, right. Oops, there go my life savings. Oh well.
