Troy
Hubris Undone
By: Charles Giuliano - Aug 24, 2015
Troy
Insulted
The arrogant hero
Sulked in his tent
Killed Hector
Bravest of the Trojans
Dragged the corpse
Around the walls
Unrepentant hubris
Wailing women
His father Priam
Pleaded for
Ravaged body
Rites of burial
A mighty warrior
Slain and defamed
Yet again the hero
Dark poet of the Greeks
Most radiant of men
Rallied tide of battle
Routing the enemy
So many ships
Beached on the shore
Ten years on
Away from home and hearth
Their boys now men
From afar
Guided by Apollo
Arrow of Paris
Abductor of Helen
Pretty boy and coward
Found its target
Brought down and slaughtered
Cities named for him
In France and even Texas
Nowhere in the world
One named for
Mighty Achilles
Remembered for his
Heel
