Rob Moore

Second Effort

Rob Moore

Other ends of a couch
Dinner party
After an opening
Matching Perry Ellis suits
Rob Moore’s a Santa Fe brown
The color of earth
Mine lime sherbet
Bought at same
Filene’s Basement sale
We laughed about that
He was a bit tipsy
So fine and handsome
In an elegant Southern accent
Dripping with Spanish moss
You know Charles
When I had my first show in Boston
You described my work as
Resembling Navajo rugs
But the Navajos did it better
A review long forgotten
Artists know them chapter and verse
Rob died way too soon
January 1, 1993 at 55
Complications of AIDS
Months later
Retrospective at Mass Art
Tough and respected
Professor with exquisite
Gift of teaching color
Through geometric abstraction
I asked to review it
Art New England
Looked long and hard
Perhaps really seeing
Drew a blank trying to write
Daunted by responsibility
Went back for another look
Getting it right
He never saw that review
A debt repaid
It takes time to see
With no going back to
Erase our mistakes
Except when too late
