Farm Stand
Not the Same

Farm Stand
Passing farm stand
Just up the road
Country living
Now early August
Sign finally hanging
Sweet Corn
Butter and Sugar
Tomatoes not yet ripe
Leave them in bag
Overnight she said
Young girl
Ring in her nose
Kids nowadays
Cautiously I asked
Where’s the old lady
Passed last June
Remembered fondly
Small and frail
Bent with age
Toothless grin
Knew me well
Pleasant exchange
Hot today ain’t it
Sure is she said
In her pleasant way
Always there
Mostly alone
Slowly counting change
Worked her to death
I said with a laugh
The older woman
Answered from rocker
Try and get her
To take a day off
Great to see corn
Sweet and nice
On the grill
Last night
Gosh I really
Miss the old lady
In her way
Friend of mine
Gone missing
