Day by Day
Swinging for the Fences
By: Charles Giuliano - Aug 04, 2015
Day by Day
During about a decade
Vincent van Gogh
Created an oeuvre of
Some 2,000 works
Including 900 paintings
And 1,100 drawing
More or less
Fifty of these comprise
Van Gogh and Nature
This summer at the Clark
On view are primarily
Unfamiliar paintings
The far too valuable
Greatest masterpieces
Are remembered but not seen
Where is Starry Night
Or that last disturbing
Wheat Field with Crows
After which he shot himself
We see the work of
Every day
When nobody hits a
Home run all the time
Reminding me of this
Past year
With some 250 poems
August to August
Resulting in two books
The intense activity of
Painting or writing
Inspiring further threads
This generating that
Seen as a whole
Like touring this exhibition
What happens on an
Ordinary day
In the field or studio
At the computer
Striving for an average
Getting on base
Raising the bar
Realizing that
Nobody wins all the time
To most who swing
For the fences
Taking our daily at bats
There is only the satisfaction
Of the work itself
