Tanglewood, located in Lenox, Massachusetts, only two plus hours from Boston and under three from Manhattan, has a special week in-store. The festivities start on Sunday, August 2nd at 10am. Ozawa Hall will host the Tanglewood Music Center Chamber Music Concert with Betsy Jolas as narrator. The show consists of Beethoven, Kurtag, a world premier from narrator Jolas, Moore and Schubert. There will be an intermission talk with TMC 75 composers.

At 2:30pm, the Shed will host Conductor Andris Nelsons with the BSO and special gusts Yo-Yo Ma on cello, Steven Ansell on viola and Hikan Hardenberger on trumpet. The afternoon will consist of works from Hayden, Dean and Strauss.

Competing for your attention this Sunday will be the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Wind Ensemble with H. Robert Reynolds, as conductor. The 2:30 pm concert takes place at Ozawa Hall, followed by an Evening of Opera (8pm Ozawa Hall). Ken-David Masur will conduct selections from Mozart. Dawn Upshaw will sing soprano.

Tuesday, August 4th is the heralded Tanglwood on Parade. Events take place all day at Tanglewood highlighted by an 8pm concert in the Shed. The BSO and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra will be led by conductors, John Williams, Andris Nelsons, Keith Lockhart and Stephane Deneve. The program will consist of Williams Just Down West Street (a gift to the TMC in honor of its 75th Anniversary) and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Op.49.  Fireworks will follow the concert. Afternoon events are included in the ticket price: 2:30 pm Ozawa Hall presents the TMC Cello Ensemble; 3:30pm at Ozawa Hall, the TMC Piano Concert takes place, followed by the 5 pm TMC Vocal Concert. The Shed hosts the 4 pm Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra and Chorus concert. All of these events are included when you purchase a ticket for the day.

On Wednesday, August 5th, Ozawa Hall hosts baritone Matthias Gorne with Markus Hinterhauser on piano. Shuberts Winterreise will be the focus of the concert.

Thursday, August 6th is the Annual Louise and Henry Leander Concert at Ozawa Hall (8pm). This All-Brahms Program features Emanuel Ax on piano, Leondis Kavakos on violin and Yo-Yo Ma on cello.

This is my 33rd season attending concerts at Tangelwood. This is the week I am always most excited to attend. The highlight, of course, after the amazing music are the Fireworks with 1812 Overture playing in the background.

Both Stockbridge Bowl and the Kampe Family are lit-up that night.
