First Light

The Shadow Catcher

By: - Jul 26, 2016

First Light

Bolt upright
Deep in night
End of sleep
Stumble in the dark
Kitchen and coffee
Far too early
Cell phone
Not charging
Last e mail
Poet friend Stephen
Medical emergency
Now OK
Wilma wrote
Again our mortality
Catching us
By surprise
So many close calls
Too much on our plate
Dawn brought
The Eagle on
Our lawn
Shuffled out
To get it
Stiff leaning down
Creaking back up
Distraction of news
Lasting just a
Few minutes
Sports and politics
Things of at best
Fleeting interest
Compared to
Big picture
Not so pretty
As it once was
Of course an
Illusion
Brightening day
Melts the shadows
Makes those
Midnight thoughts
Seem moot
Compared to
Gentle unfolding
Of yet another
Summer splash
Fresh with color
Filled with light
Beyond that
Who can say
Things that crawl
Through the night
So different when
Illuminated
