Olana '66: Fifty Years of Art & Style

By: - Jul 07, 2016

Olana, perched high above the Hudson River is a National Historic Landmark and a New York state Historic Site. Located an hour from the Berkshires, Olana has always been the perfect ‘day trip to art, nature and history.’

Olana is located on 250 acres of pristine, bucolic land, with views of the Hudson River.  Nineteenth century landscape painter, Frederic E. Church, of the Hudson River School, built his residence, Olana, with the guidance of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the designers of Central Park.

Nature was the canvas for Frederic E. Church’s life. The theme repeats itself in Church’s paintings.  Olana and its environment never leave the consciousness of the artist.

The historic residence was crumbling in 1966. That was fifty years ago.

Today, Olana is alive and well.

To mark the 50th Anniversary, the Olana Partnership is sponsoring a fundraiser, aptly named, Olana ’66: Fifty Years of Art & Style.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 9th from 6-8pm on the East Lawn of Olana.
