Canny's Pit where
you can watch
half or an acre of ice
rise & fall
at the edge
by the granite
stand
rise & fall
skate on it

There's a young gull
in the middle
where the ice is smooth
caught
trying to drink
or fish
iced in
by her beak

The men say the moon
affects the water
in the quarries
ice
seems to
breathe
at the edge
by the granite
