The Eclipse Mill Gallery, at 243 Union Street in North Adams, Ma. launches its 2012 season with the Fifth Annual Berkshire Salon from May 18 through June 10. The opening reception will occur on Friday, May 18, from 6 to 8 PM.

The gallery is open through the season on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to five PM.

The Berkshire Salon  provides an overview of the many artists working in the region. The Annual is hung "salon" style.

Drop off days at the gallery are Sunday, May 13, and 12 noon to 5 pm on Monday, May 14. While participants are requested to register on line walks-ins will be accepted. To cover the cost of the exhibition there is a $15 entrance fee.

One work per artist will be exhibited as space permits. A single work, such as a diptych or triptych, may comprise more than one element. While the Salon is not juried the curators reserve the right to reject work which is not properly prepared for installation, of unmanageable scale, or unsuitable content.

Those submitting sculptures or objects are asked to provide pedestals or other display elements. For works requiring special handling the artists are requested to be available to install on Tuesday, May 15 or by special arrangement.

Since its inception The Berkshire Salon has proven to be a lively and much anticipated event. The Eclipse Mill Gallery, in a historic complex with 40 studio/ residences for artists, is one of the largest and best appointed non museum spaces in the region.

The Salon is an attempt to reach out to the entire fine arts community. Often artists have received their first exposure through this event. In many instances that has led to being juried into exhibitions, not just at the Eclipse Mill Gallery, but in other Berkshire venues.

There is a serendipitous confluence between amateur and professional artists. This encourages visitors to experience a broad range of work in an inviting and inclusive setting.

On many levels the Salon evokes the spirit of ever popular Open Studios but more concisely presented in one large space.  

Following The Berkshire Salon the Eclipse Mill Gallery will continue with weekend programming through the lively Fall season.
