By: - May 07, 2013

Cape
The Cape Cod Theater Coalition has announced that five new theaters have joined the Coalition, bringing total membership to 22.  New members are: Falmouth Theatre Guild in Falmouth, Theatre Workshop of Nantucket, The Vineyard Playhouse in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard, Buzzards Play Productions in Buzzard's Bay, and Island Theatre Workshop -Martha's Vineyard, Vineyard Haven. The Coalition has grown from 5 theaters in 1995 to 22 theaters today, with virtually every live theater on Cape Cod and the Islands now members.

Theatre Workshop of Nantucket, The Vineyard Playhouse and the Island Theatre Workshop are the first members from the Islands, and that expansion has prompted the Coalition to rename itself the Cape & Islands Theater Coalition in order to reflect its wider geographic representation.

The Cape & Islands Theater Coalition is a collaboration of live performance theaters from Woods Hole to Provincetown and the Islands.  Best known for its annual Theater Guide and Schedule which this year will be distributed to over 70,000 households and visitors throughout the Northeast, the Coalition also provides the latest theater performance calendars and news through its website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed.

The Coalition also sponsors seminars, promotes the performing arts, and through the Friends of the Theater Coalition promotes awareness of its theaters, holds event such as its annual Season Highlights Gala to be held this year on October 6 featuring showcase performances from member theaters, and special events such as its discussion series StageStruck: Behind the Scenes of Local Theater.  Next in this series will be Saints or Skeptics: A Q&A With Local Theater Critics to be held on June 23, reception and refreshments from 2:00-3:00 pm, discussion from 3:00-4:30 pm at the Chatham Drama Guild, 134 Crowell Road, Chatham.

Founded in 1995 by five theaters and the support of the Cape Cod 5 Bank Foundation, the Coalition has grown to be one of the largest collaborative theater groups in the country.  Members range from small community theaters to large venues featuring professional Actors Equity productions.

The Coalition recently launched its new website, capecodlive.org , as part of the Theater Coalition's on-going effort to encourage and promote cultural tourism among the more than 6 million annual visitors and 250,000 year-round residents of the Cape and Islands.
