Leslie Wilcox Firebrands

Boston Sculptors

By: - Apr 27, 2026

Boston Sculptors Gallery presents Leslie Wilcox’s solo exhibition FIREBRANDS, the third in a series of shows contending with the cascading global climate catastrophe. Working with weather-beaten driftwood from the beach and forest, Wilcox petrifies, gilds, and patinas the wood before adding metal screening, providing a protective armament against further damage and destruction.

As part of the exhibition, as in her previous shows ROTTEN and OUTWITS, Wilcox invites audience collaboration, offering paper and pens for visitors and encouraging them to express their own personal feelings, opinions and concerns.  Drawings are always welcome, too.  Please come and write on the wall!

Wilcox’s new series is once again inspired and paired with anonymous provocations provided by visitors, such as:

“I am raising my daughter to be an anarchist.  The world will need young angry women.”

“It’s raining in February. Hair spray is not the problem.”

“Corporations are not people. People and environment over profits! Corporate Greed. $$.”

“You can’t breathe money – you can’t eat money – you can’t drink money.”

“BREAK THE GOLDEN SHACKLES THAT BIND US TO INDUSTRY.”

“Future generations will experience more heatwaves and their lives will melt…”

A founding member of Boston Sculptors, Wilcox lives and works in Boston’s South End and Provincetown, MA. Her work is featured in collections including Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, Fidelity Investments, Federal Reserve Bank, Boston College, Brandeis and Harvard Universities, and deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA. Wilcox also completes public outdoor installations and is reviewed regularly in regional and national periodicals.
