Fenway 2008 Opening Day Ceremonies
Celebrating the 2007 Red Sox Championship
By: Mark Favermann - Apr 17, 2008
Each Spring there is a annual mission and goal that my studio must achieve: get the infield ready for the Red Sox baseball season. During the winter, we are given images by management that must be integrated into the infield pads along the first and third base lines. Digitally, we set the images in place and when approved, we hand paint the corporate identies into the Fenway Green (no joke!) painted pads. We also are responsible for branding the dugouts and the photographers' pit areas.
In 2002, the first season following 9/11, we were asked if we could create an American Flag that could cover a large expanse (200+ft) of the Green Monster, the 40 foot high left field wall, the largest in Major League Baseball. Not only did we create the flag, but it has become a part of baseball history and lore. ESPN heralded its unfurling as the play of the week, it is shown in newspaper coverage and theflag is featured in books about the Red Sox and baseball. The 2005 movie Fever Pitch featured it as well.
The photos shown here are from April 8, 2008 when the Red Sox celebrated their second World Series Championship and gave out rings to its players and staff. The Boston Symphony Orchestra played and the Vermont Air Force National Guard flew over on cue when the Star Spangled Banner was finished. Red Sox Nation was in all its glory.
Play Ball.
