Wilco Solid Sound Update
Improved Camping Amenities
By: Ariel Petrova - Apr 13, 2011
The complete three-day schedule for Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival is available for download at the festival’s official website.
www.Solidsoundfestival.com.
The schedule includes information on day-by-day performances, exhibits and scheduled events and the site features new exclusive video content, lodging and transportation news and much more.
Solid Sound takes place June 24-26 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA and features two Wilco concerts plus performances by The Levon Helm Band, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, soul singer Syl Johnson, jazz trumpeter Dave Douglas, alternative country twosome The Handsome Family, a comedy cabaret curated by John Hodgman and much more.
The newest additions to the lineup include neo-soul singer and producer Jamie Lidell, the new Neil Finn-led Pajama Party and one half of Chicago DJ duo East of Eden Soul Express, The Rabbit Factory’s John Ciba.
The intimate three-day event also features performances by Wilco-affiliated side projects and a rare live performance by Pillow Wand, the “dream guitars” collaboration by Wilco guitarist Nels Cline and Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore. Also featured are comedians Wyatt Cenac, Eugene Mirman and Morgan Murphy, New Zealand rocker (and son of Neil) Liam Finn, folk duo Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, Chicago retro-soul band JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, bassist and composer Darin Gray and indie-rockers Here We Go Magic, Sic Alps and Purling Hiss.
The previously announced Solid Ground tent site has been enhanced since its initial announcement. The nearby site, offered by MASS MoCA in partnership with the city of North Adams, will include a food service tent with late night hours, pay-per-use showers and simple recreational gear for kids (basketballs, etc.) plus porta-potties and drinking water.
Solid Ground offers festival attendees a camping option within walking distance to festival grounds and downtown shops, restaurants and bars. Space is limited and filling fast. Reservations are required. See www.massmoca.org for complete details.
Returning to Solid Sound for a second year will be Story Pirates, the fun-for-all-ages sketch comedy/musical performance troupe whose skits are based entirely on stories written by elementary school-aged kids.
Euclid Records, the St. Louis, MO-based independent vinyl and CD retailer will be on hand to host an on-site pop-up store.
The Solid Sound Festival is envisioned by Wilco and presented in collaboration with MASS MoCA, a renovated 19th century textile mill located in the scenic Berkshire Mountains. Festival attendees have full access to the entire, sprawling museum campus, which incorporates 150,000 square feet of galleries and includes Kidspace, a museum within the museum, designed especially for children and families. This year Kidspace will feature expanded hours throughout the Solid Sound Festival weekend.
Tickets for the three-day festival are $124.50 and available through solidsoundfestival.com and the MASS MoCA box office. Price includes admission to the festival and museum, service fees and designated festival parking.
Admission for children 6 & under is free at Solid Sound. Weekend festival passes for kids ages 7-10 are $50 and ONLY AVAILABLE at the Solid Sound Box Office, starting Friday, June 24. They will be available throughout the entire weekend.
