Pond

Pond

Weeks of confinement
His head crammed
The world gone wrong
Walked to the pond
Spring but cold
Where the beach is
On a hot summer day
With pent up energy
Fury in fact
Picked up a rock
Hurled it far
Broke the mirror
Trees all a shimmer
That was pleasing
Causing ripples
Circles ever greater
Fading soft away
He found a bigger rock
Delighted in its splash
Gone forever
Sinking to silted bottom
Where the weeds
Grabbed his ankles
Wading in August
Late afternoon
When kids are gone
Home for their supper
Soon to bed and dreams
No more of that
Not now or ever
With mounting rage
Found more rocks
A barrage of them
Attacking the water
There all alone
Edge of the pond
Then it passed
Spent of anger
At least for now
On that imagined day
Surface again settled
As it has always been
Since time began
Stillness
