"West Lake Cycle" by John Myers

The first choral work commissioned for Crescendo is an original musical compostition based on the "West Lake" poem cycle by the Chinese poet and statesman Ouyang Xiu, who lived from 1007 - 1072 CE. The piece, composed by John Myers, also includes an original translation of the text. This composition for mixed choir, pipa (Chinese lute), flute and/or dizi (Chinese bamboo flute) and harpsichord will be premiered by Christine Gevert and the Crescendo Chorus.

"Wu Xing" Five Elements/Five Phases by Cheng-Chia Wu

The second commission for Crescendo Chorus is a multi-movement composition for mixed chorus of four to eight voices a cappella and four soloists. It is based on "Wu Xing" Five Elements/Five Phases from the Chinese I Ching: The Book of Changes.

Three Choral Works by Dr. Chen Yi will also be performed.

Saturday April 13, 2013 at 4pm at First Congregational Church, 251 Main St., Great Barrington, MA.

Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 4pm at Trinity Church - Lime Rock, 484 Lime Rock Rd., Lakeville, CT.
