"The book has a long history and tradition, but since the beginning of the 20th century it has started to disappear physically and become virtual. The object book/artist book is a creative method that allows the artist maximum freedom of expression through extended forms and methods as well as through the choice of techniques and different materials - from handmade paper, textiles, metal, glass or ceramics. Even if some artists create limited editions, these works remain unique.
The object book/artist book deals, among other things, with a fundamental theme, namely the relationship between text/literature and painting/installation. It is a fascinating field that encompasses a wide range of artistic expressions and is characterized by a multitude of influences and trends.
In contemporary art, the object book is a living and dynamic art form, which is constantly evolving. It has become an important part of the contemporary art scene and deserves to be discovered and appreciated."
Dorothea Fleiss PhD, curator
Founder and director of the organization that sponsors the Book Art Biennials, the European International Book Art Biennale ( EIBAB), Dorothea Fleiss, which is based in Germany has already held a number of book-art exhibitions. The 2025 Biennale, as always a juried show, is dedicated to students and young artists. Entries were welcomed world-wide and prizes will be awarded at the end of exhibition. They will be: Grand Prix EIBAB, Award for Innovation, Award for Young Artist, and Certificates for Honorable Mention.
The show proved again to be quite exquisite, with imaginative art-books and entries beyond the book form, as seen in the photo series. And, what a beautiful presentation!
