Jazz in the Berkshires

Three Upcoming Events

By: - Feb 17, 2023

First, a reminder: our Jazz Composers Showcase takes place at the Berkshire Museum on Saturday, Feb. 25 (7:30pm). Ticket sales are well under way for the world premiere of 10 original compositions from artists in the northeast. This could be the hottest ticket in town, don’t miss out. After opening for no less than NEA Jazz Master Dr. Billy Taylor at our 2006 Pittsfield CityJazz Festival, the METTA Quintet makes a long-awaited return to the Berkshires for a special program on Thursday, March 9 (7pm). Presented by our friends at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, METTA will be performing She Said/She Says, celebrating some of the many important achievements of female composers, arrangers, instrumentalists and vocalists from early 20th century through present-day. Using U.S. and 20th Century women’s history as a backdrop, She Said/She Says commemorates the lives of some of the many courageous, creative women who have dedicated their lives to the serious study and practice of jazz music. And tickets are selling fast for NEA Jazz Master Delfeayo Marsalis, who brings his original music and his trombone to Shakespeare & Co. in Lenox, for a March 11 concert. A member of New Orleans’ fabled Marsalis family, he will be backed by the UMass Jazz Ensemble 1. There’s a combination that's not to be missed, featuring one of the most exciting big bands on the scene today. The combination of Delfeayo’s energetic repertoire with some of UMass' patented selections of its own will create a memorable music event, assuming you’re in time at the Shakespeare & Co. box office: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pesptpm/11219432/1139252

And that’s just in the next three weeks! Stay tuned for more.
