Tristan Govignon: Artist Statement
I am fascinated with and inspired by Nature's energy and its alchemical forces. My current body of sculptural work is a reaction to our current global climate change and Nature's response to it. With this new series of bronze sculptures, I seek to present the inherent beauty that can be found in moments of growth, chaos, and tension by exposing the experience of the creation of the artwork itself. In this creative universe traveling forms with circular voids flow through space. From these seemingly circular voids, three-dimensional sculptures emanate. As the shapes initiate from emptiness, they evoke a state of mind or being that offers unlimited potential for creation and positive energy. The void is often conceptualized as circular and most of the three-dimensional forms sculpted in this space are disc-like or circular in origin. The process of the creation of the sculptures themselves is kept evident in the ripped and torn textures that lead to flowing lava like forms.
