Requiem
For a Heavy Weight
By: Charles Giuliano - Jan 14, 2016
Requiem
Neverland
Forever
Over there
Five long days
From here
All hope
Abandoned
Ties severed
Now wild man
Final trek
Sunup to sundown
First light
Darkest night
Trudging on
Blazing desert
Parched mouth
Burning feet
Endurance complete
Staggering on
To the forest
Through the trees
Ripped by thorns
Up over mountains
Numbing cold
Drifts of snow
Bleak and beautiful
Crossing freezing rivers
Wet to bone
Drenched and drowned
Shivering alone
Bare naked
On the shore
Up at dawn
Hardly rested
Moving on
To the shore
Crafting a raft
From drift wood
Toward
Island
Of no return
For which
By then
So many ordeals
He yearned
For closure
Finally
Over
