Blue Heron Gallery Online, an online virtual art gallery recently launched, announces its debut art show featuring Galen Cheney.  The Massachusetts artist will present “Still Standing Standing Still,” a collection of her most recent works painted during the lockdown of 2020.

The show will run from noon EST on January 13 to February 12, 2021, on the Blue Heron Gallery Online website: www.blueherongallery.online

It will be accessible online around the clock for thirty days and the paintings will be available for purchase directly from the show’s website.

In addition to her art, there will be a “Meet Galen Cheney” page that will include biographical information, her artist statement, and a video talk from her studio.

“Nearly all the paintings in this show were completed during this bizarre period of Covid-19.  I have been profoundly grateful for my deep well of painting ideas and for the opportunity and space to investigate them during this time,” Cheney stated about her work.

The show includes works in oil and acrylic on Stonehenge paper, oil and spray paint on canvas, and plaster, spray paint and oil on cradled panel. With various sizes and price points, the show has much to offer to collectors and fans.

Blue Heron Gallery Online is the concept of Michael McGrath of North Adams.  With mobility restricted due to the pandemic, and galleries closed, he recognized that artists needed an outlet for the work they continued to produce during quarantine.  As a former web developer in an earlier career, provides that outlet in the form of a virtual art gallery where artists could both show their work and offer it for sale.

“Artists have continued to work, and now there is an opportunity for them to show.  Not only that, but to offer their pieces for sale online during shows.  Artists produce, and the gallery will present,” McGrath said.

“Collectors, art lovers, and artists will all be able to attend gallery shows at any time from the comfort of their couches.  They’ll be able to meet the artists, see their works, listen to them speak about it on video, download catalogs, and purchase work from the show with an easy checkout process.”

The Berkshire based McGrath is also offering a long list of services to artists who wish to be a part of the virtual gallery, including copywriting and editing, publishing services for exhibition catalogs. He offers website development that would allow artists to sell their works online and present their own shows in the future. Also available are promotional services that entail social media marketing, email marketing, and search engine optimization.

This represents a significant development from the tradition model and relationship between galleries and the artists they represent. Instead of waiting for visitors to come to a static location Blue Heron is offering strategies for its exhibitors to tap into a potentially vast audience through extensive, vetted e mail lists and postings. This includes uniquely designed catalogues in PDF as well as printed formats.

“Imagine, artists who can offer their own shows on their own websites, and sell their pieces directly from their shows.  I see virtual galleries as the future for art shows.  More importantly, I see artists taking the business of their art seriously enough to create their own branding identity and online e-commerce website.”

Cheney’s “Still Standing Standing Still” is the first art show of the New Year for the gallery. Three other artists and shows already are planned into the late spring and early summer.  Artists interested in discussing an online exhibition should contact the gallery at art@blueherongallery.online.
