What’s in a Name

Consider
My friend Benno
Not just some
Tom, Dick or Harry
The only one I know
By that name
How blessed
Not to be generic
Like some Joe
Though good enough
For our President
Who is just that
Some guy Joe
Better though
Than Moe, Larry or Curly
Bonkers stooges
Percy or Archibald
A clown’s name
Clarence or Clarabell
A foolish curse
What could be worse
In every sense
The Sheffield Master
Is every bit a Benno
The essence of Bennoness
Benissimo to the max
Quite the contrarian
While I alas am Charles
Never a Chuck or Charlie
How pedestrian
Rubbish to that
Anthony not Tony
Andrew not Andy
To my friends Big Boy
When I am behaved
Good Old Charlie Brown
Affectionately to Astrid
Though I have to earn
Such endearment
Can’t just be my
Usual cruddy self
Charles seems so
Stiff and elitist
Those British Kings
One got his
Noggin chopped off
Olivered by Cromwell
Or Prince Charles
My BFF with whom
I have roamed the heath
Hunting grouse and geese
Then single malt
By a roaring hearth
How fortunate
Be the well named
For all the rest
Ordinary blokes
Mean cruel jokes
Futile lives spent
Wishing they were
Benno
